Diversity. It defines my practice, my working style and my community.

Throughout my journey as an accountant — becoming a CGA in 1993 (UWO & McGill), working in public practice, starting my own practice in 1998, and joining Turner Moore’s growing Ontario-wide team in 2014 — I have gone out of my way to work with individuals and businesses that are, in so many ways, interesting and authentic.

These enterprises often have unique accounting challenges, non-traditional business models, and serve niche markets or communities — all of which make them more interesting to advise and support.

As a woman of colour, a transplant from Africa, and someone of East Indian and Persian descent with a Lebanese partner, educated in the British and American systems, I embrace the full spectrum of women entrepreneurs wherever they are and do what I can to help each one along the road to achieving their dreams and ambitions. Oh yes … I’m also fluent in four languages.

There is one place, however, where I never want to see too much diversity — and that is in consistently exceeding client expectations. My practice runs on honesty, humility and high ethical and performance standards. That should always be status quo …
